NIGERIA PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Ahmed Musa has continued to show consistency in the colours of CSKA Moscow and has earned himself the spot as the team's leading goal scorer over the last two seasons.
Musa was in South Africa last Wednesday to play for the Super Eagles in the Mandela Challenge where he provided the assist for the second goal scored by Uche Nwofor. He also had a chance to score which he narrowly missed.
Musa then flew back to Russia and scored the only goal in the match against Kuban Krasnodarto help maintain their momentum in the league as they chase back to back title. He has scored three goals in five league games this season while he has created six chances for his team mates to score.

INEC begins prosecution of 93,000 fake voters

Independent National Electoral Commission will from this week begin the
prosecution of the 93,000 people that registered more than once in the
last voters’ registration in Anambra State.
This was stated on Saturday by the
Resident Electoral Commissioner for Anambra State, Prof. Chukwuemeka
Onukaogu, at a press briefing in Awka.

suspected pipeline vandal, who was arrested by the Inspector General of
Police Special Taskforce on Anti-pipeline Vandalism, has said he took
to the illicit business because he wanted to make a minimum of N20, 000
per day.
The suspect, Precious Osuwo, who was
arrested with nine others, said he was a photographer but decided to
become a vandal to have funds which he could invest in his photography
business.
The 24-year-old suspect said, “I am a
photographer by vocation however, I was not making enough money and I
needed money to buy equipment. I tried my best to meet some politicians
in the state for assistance but I was refused access.

How did you receive the news of your father’s death?
I was in the studio recording when my
mother called me to say that he was not feeling too well and that she
was taking him to the hospital. By the time I got to the hospital he was
dead.
My father’s death came as a shock to me.
Sometimes, you have to flash back on all the things he should have
done, things he did not do, things he said and what he should not have
said. You recall intimate moments with him which you cannot experience
again. But knowing the kind of father he was, I know he would not be
happy if I continue crying for too long rather than handling the
situation like a man.

Obasanjo attacks Atiku, Tinubu, others
ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo
Former
President Olusegun Obasanjo, on Tuesday took a swipe at the younger
generation of Nigerian leaders, saying they had poor performance record
in terms of integrity and probity.
He passed the damning verdict while
responding to questions on issues bordering on poor leadership in
Africa at the 4th Annual Ibadan Sustainable Development Summit organised
by the Centre for Sustainable Development, University of Ibadan, in
collaboration with African Sustainable Development Network.
The former President, who delivered
the keynote address at the summit stated that the younger
generation of leaders failed Nigerians.
JTF Kill Boko Haram Second In Command; Arrest Women With Weapons
Momogu, the second-in-command to the sect’s leader, Abubakar Shekau, had a N25m bounty put on his head by security agencies for information that could lead to his arrest. The Director of Defence Information, Brig.- Gen Chris Olukolade, who confirmed his killing via electronic mail, described him as a vicious Boko Haram leader who took delight in personally slaughtering the sect’s victims. He added that Momogu was the expert in charge of mounting anti-aircraft weapons for the sect and coordinating members in Yobe and Adamawa states.
Olukolade said on Wednesday that Momogu was identified by insurgents arrested during one of the recent encounters between the JTF and the insurgents in Bama. He said, “As troops intensify pursuit of terrorists who have been unleashing mayhem in Borno and Yobe communities, the death of Momogu Bama, said to be the Second-in-Command to Shekau has been confirmed by other arrested terrorists.
In another related incident, eight women have been arrested in Maiduguri by the JTF operatives for using their veils to conceal guns for insurgents. A JTF source, who made this known, did not say exactly when the women were arrested and the number of guns seized from them. He stated that the operatives were stunned when they stopped the women and found out that what they were “transporting” with their veils were guns. He said,
“The troops could not believe what they saw. A soldier just suspected the women and decided to stop them but when they were asked to unwrap what they were transporting, they hesitated, thereby making some of the soldiers to forcefully remove the veils. They saw a number of guns neatly concealed with the veils and the women were promptly arrested.”

ASUU, others protest against poor education funding

THE
Academic Staff Union of Universities, the Academic Staff Union of
Polytechnics and other stakeholders on Tuesday shut down activities on
the ever-busy Ikorodu Road, Lagos to protest against the poor state of
public education in the country.
Others that joined the protest were the
National Association of Nigerian Students, Concerned Students Against
Education Commercialisation and Education Rights Campaign. The protest
was organised under the aegis of the Joint Action Front.
The protesters said they were waging a
war against what they described as commercialisation of education in the
country, adding that the Lagos rally was a prelude to a nationwide
campaign targeted at shutting down the nation.
Secretary JAF, Abiodun Aremu, said, “The
goal of this protest is to shut down the nation until those in
government begin to take education seriously.
“Governments in Nigeria today operate anti-poor policies and they are not bothered about public education.
“Funding of public education is not
given the priority it deserves, because the children of those in
government and their friends are being trained in private schools in
Nigeria and foreign countries with looted funds.”
According to JAF, the march was holding simultaneously in other Nigerian cities, such as Kano, Owerri, Calabar, and Abuja.
In Lagos, the placard-bearing protesters marched from Yaba through Ikorodu Road to Ojota chanting solidarity songs.
The protesters succeeded in forcing vehicular traffic on both sides of the expressway to a standstill.
Co-ordinator of Democratic Socialist
Movement at the University of Ibadan, Michael Ogundele, said there were
no better ways than mass protests to put political pressure on the
government.
Ogundele, said, “There is nothing to show that government would fund public education, even if ASUU suspends its strike.
“That is why we are saying that the
whole rank and file of Nigerian students should come out. We will all
protest to put political pressure on these Nigerian looters to make them
properly fund education.”

Okonjo-Iweala
THE
Academic Staff Union of Universities on Wednesday faulted the statement
credited to the Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo- Iweala, that the
union demanded for N92bn, describing the claim as false.
ASUU said it never demanded such amount as earned allowances in the 2009 agreement it reached with the Federal Government.
Okonjo-Iweala had on Wednesday in Minna, said the Federal Government couldn’t meet the N92bn allowances as demanded by ASUU.
The univerisity lecturers, in a
statement by the University of Ibadan branch chairman, Dr. Olusegun
Ajiboye, described the amount mentioned by the minister as “a the
imagination of the minister.”
Ajiboye explained that the earned
allowances, the union and the governemnt calculated in the 2009
agreement, amounted to N87b, which covered allowances for three and half
years for the lecturers in the nation’s universities.
He said, the N87bn was a compromise made by ASUU to scale down from N127bn.
He added that the N87bn was computed based on 15 per cent of the yearly recurrent expenditures of some nation’s universities.
The statement stated, “I want Nigerians
to ask the minister where she got her figure of N92bn from. There was
never a time that ASUU made a demand that is up to N92bn. I think the
N92bn is just the imagination of the minister.
“But that is not to say that this government did not enter into an
agreement with us. This is a government that signed an agreement with us
on January 24, 2012 to the effect that they would inject N100bn as
funding into the universities in the first one month and that before
the end of 2012, they would inject another N300bn.’’

PHOTOS: Father, Son Missing for 40 Years Found In Forest
They were discovered by locals looking for firewood in deep forest in the Tay Tra district of Quang Ngai province.
Yesterday authorities confirmed that the men were Thanh, 82, and 41-year-old Lang.
The older man once lived a normal life with his family in the hamlet of Tra Kem around the time of the Vietnam War.
But one day his wife and two of his sons were killed by a mine explosion, putting him in a state of shock.
He took his two-year-old son and fled into the jungle, where they live in a tree house, thereafter never having any contact with anyone else.
The pair survived by foraging fruit and cassava from the forest and planting corn.
They wore loincloths made out of tree bark, and lived in a timber hut raised five metres above the ground.
When the foragers saw the two ‘jungle men’ from a distance acting abnormally, they alerted local authorities.
Officials set up a team to track them down, and found them yesterday after a five-hour search.
The father could speak a little of the minority Cor language, but the son knew only a few words.
The pair are now undergoing medical check-ups as a first step to being reintegrated into mainstream society.
Student Unions Differ Over ASUU Strike
It would be recalled that last executive members of the National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, led by the National Assistant Secretary, Mr. Ali Mohammed disowned the national president, Mr. Yinka Gbadebo, on what they referred to as “his support for the Federal Government in the ongoing strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU.” Some members of the executive told newsmen that students were largely unbiased in the crisis and the inclination of Mr. Gbadebo to support the government was a deviation from the students’ collective goal of resolving the crisis.

Nigeria Won’t Break Up In 2015 – President Jonathan
President
Goodluck Jonathan on Thursday said that Nigeria would disappoint all
those who predicted that the country would break up in 2015 by
continuing to remain one indivisible entity.
“For those who are predicting that this country will separate in 2015 based on the fault lines as of the time of amalgamation, they will know that this prediction will not be of any consequence. Nigeria will continue to remain one indivisible entity,” the President said.
Jonathan said this while receiving members of the Muslim community in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja who paid him Sallah homage at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, as part of the activities marking this year’s Eid-el-Fitri.

She added a fatwa on their male patrons who ruined “some of the girls

4 Burnt To Death In Auto Crash
Four persons including a female were on Sunday morning burnt to death in a ghastly motor accident near Lambata village in Kwali, along Abuja-Lokoja road.
They were rushed to Kwali General hospital by officials of Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC).
Three out of the four passengers who sustained various degrees of burns died at the hospital after they were rescued by the officials, while the remaining one person, died on the spot.
According to eyewitness report, the accident happened around 9:55 am when a commuter Hiace bus with registration number LG 31 TTD collided with an oncoming Volkswagen Golf with registration number LSD 472 AQ.
The on-coming bus overtook dangerously and in the process collided with an oncoming Golf car before it went up in flames.
Yangoji unit commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Austine Chukwudi Okeke, confirmed the accident.
He said the corpses have been deposited at the hospital morgue while 16 other passengers who sustained injuries were also taken to the same Kwali hospital for treatment.

Gunmen Kill 13 Bus Passengers
Gunmen have killed at least 13 bus passengers in the southwest of Pakistan, according to officials.
Provincial home secretary Akbar Hussain Durrani told AFP news agency that militants had blocked a road and held up a group of security personnel.
They then stopped at least two buses and took passengers away - the bodies of 13 people were later found nearby.
Snake Strangles Children
A snake escaped from a pet shop and killed two children in the Canadian province of New Brunswick, police say.
In
a statement, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police said they believed the
reptile had strangled two boys, aged five and seven, in Campbellton.The boys were staying overnight at a friend's apartment above the pet shop.
Police said they believe the snake slipped out of its cage overnight and travelled through the ventilation. The serpent has been captured by police.

1. “HE’S JUST A FRIEND”
There is nothing wrong with having platonic friends and I don’t think men and women should get rid of their friends of the opposite sex just because they’re in a new relationship. But some women keep that “friend” around just in case things don’t work out with their current boyfriend. You know, the one who we are attracted to just enough to consider sleeping with who would make a good boyfriend, but for some reason we’ve put him in the temporary friend zone. We know that he’s feeling us, so we’ll entertain him while still keeping him at arm’s length.
2. HOW MANY MEN SHE’S SLEPT WITH
Just like we know men will lie about how many partners they’ve had, so will a woman. However, men tend to make the number higher while women tend to cut that number in half, if not more. Let a man tell it, if a woman says she’s slept with 3 men, that really means, like…10. If she refuses to tell you it’s because her number is astronomical and she doesn’t want you to think she’s a slore (a Slore/Slore..keep up!) or because no matter what number she gives you, she knows it’ll be too high for you so why bother?
3. THE LAST TIME SHE HAD SEX
This is another one women tend to bend the truth on. If she hasn’t been in a serious relationship in a long time, but had a “jump-off” or “friends with benefits” situation going on before she met you, chances are she doesn’t want you to know she’s been getting’ it in during the “in between” period. Men will lie about their height, and women will lie about their weight – and that’s assuming she even answers the question. I don’t know too many men who go around asking their woman how much she weighs, because they just know better; but if for some reason he’s curious, I think women might simply “round down” the number. The only man I want asking me how much I weigh is my personal trainer. So if that’s not you, don’t worry about it unless you’re planning to carry me over the threshold on our wedding day. Along the same lines, a man may ask a woman’s clothing size, which could also be tricky.

Some women don’t know the difference between a touchdown and a free throw, but will lie and tell her man that she loves football just because she knows he does. If torturing herself by watching football all day on Sunday is the only way she can spend time with him, she’ll do it – even though she has no idea what the hell is going on. Talk about sacrificing for her man! Some men also find women who are into sports more attractive, so a woman will pretend to be into a particular sport just to appear more “cool.”
7. HOW MUCH MONEY SHE SPENDS
If a couple shares household expenses or has a joint bank account, a woman might keep a secret stash somewhere so that she can enjoy her own little “luxuries” from time to time. So when she brings home a few bags from the mall and her man asks her what she’s been up to, she’ll automatically blurt out,“Oh, these were on sale,” even though she set the mall on fire and spent a small fortune when she knows they’re supposed to be sticking to a budget. I’m sure men burn holes in their pockets too, but for some reason, a woman will try to justify her spending and come across as more “financially savvy” or frugal than he is by saying things like, “I had a coupon” or that it was “discounted.”
8. CHEATING
This is something that both sexes lie about, so I couldn’t leave this off the list. Even though men and women might cheat for different reasons, no one wants to readily admit to it, whether they’re confronted or not. I think women might be better at cheating than men are, which is nothing to really brag about; and we also tend to get away with it more because most men could never imagine their woman dipping out on them. But in the event that a man does ask his woman if she’s cheating, I don’t see too many women admitting to it unless they want the relationship to be over and put out of their misery.
9. PATERNITY
As heard on Maury, “You are NOT the father!” I know…this is sad, but you’d be surprised how many women out there lie about who the father of their children. I won’t say that this is a COMMON lie, as I would hope that paternity is something that most women take seriously. But if a woman’s been living foul and wants someone to take responsibility for her child and throw her a few dollars in child support, there’s no telling what lies will come out of desperation or fear.

The Oyo State capital was thrown into confusion on Tuesday when a middle-age woman, Ramota Salawu, raised the alarm that a fish she bought at Gege area of the town suddenly turned into a half human.
Hundreds of residents trooped to Akindele Compound, Gege, to catch a glimpse of the ‘miracle fish’ in a bucket where it was kept.
But the police boss, while addressing reporters in his office in Ibadan on Wednesday, said the object was a baby octopus, assuring the residents that they have no reason to fear.
He said people were merely spreading falsehood on the internet concerning the fish.
Ms. Salawu, who claimed to have bought the strange fish at Oke Ado, where she usually buys the item, claimed that it developed into a living being shortly after it defrosted.
To debunk her claims, the state police boss displayed the fish to journalists on Wednesday.
He also said the woman was placed under protective custody and would be released when tension within the town is doused.
