Bayelsa Police Killing: IG Opposes Mass Burial

 
 



A plan by the Bayelsa State Police Command to give a mass burial to the corpses of the 12 policemen killed by armed men on April 5 may have hit the rocks, following the intervention of the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar.



The Command has been inundated with demands by the families of the slain officers for the bodies of their relatives. They were, however, turned down by the commissioner, Kingsley Omire, on the grounds that the identity of the deceased officers could not be determined as the bodies, which were burnt in the attack, were also decomposing.
According to sources, the IGP and other top police officers at Headquarters insisted that a medical examination must be conducted on the mutilated bodies to ascertain their individual identities.To that extent, the IGP sent a team of pathologists from Force Headquarters, headed by an Assistant Commissioner of Police, to conduct the examination. "The IG has ordered medical investigations to know the identities of persons killed by the gunmen,” the source said. “The IG is against burying them in a mass grave despite the fact that their bodies were burnt beyond recognition."

The inquiry has already commenced.

A team of 50 policemen on escort duties in Bayelwa waterways was ambushed on April 5 by militants who opened fire and killed 12 of them. Their ill-fated boat was heading to Azuzuama, Southern Ijaw Local Government Area, for the burial of the mother of Mr Kile Torughedi.

Torughedi, an ex-MEND commander is now a Special Assistant to the Bayelsa Governor on Maritime Security. Most of his former boys oppose that appointment.

Mourino quits Madrid next season

CHELSEA’s hopes of welcoming Jose Mourinho back to Stamford Bridge have been given a boost, as he confirmed he won’t be at Real Madrid next season.
The ‘Special One’ has been heavily-tipped to leave the Spanish giants this summer, since falling out with a number of the club’s top stars, including goalkeeping legend Iker Casillas.
Mourinho is thought to have already agreed a deal to make a sensational return to Chelsea, even supplying Blues’ owner Roman Abramovich with a list of transfer targets.
And the Portuguese coach has now begun to tell friends he will no longer remain in the Spanish capital beyond May.
According to the chief of a local Madrid youth team – where Mourinho’s son Jose Junior plays – the 50-year-old confirmed he will soon leave Real.

Road Construction To Enhance Development – Uduaghan

Delta State Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan has said apart from social benefits, economic variables are highly considered before the award of construction of roads.

Speaking after inspecting the progress of work on Umeh Road in Isoko South Local Government of the state on Tuesday, Uduaghan explained that in line with his commitment towards Delta Beyond Oil, economic variables were paramount for executing projects in the state.
He said, “This is an economically viable road in line with our aspirations towards achieving the policy thrust of Delta beyond Oil and this road will open up the rural communities for them to take their agricultural produce to the cities.”
The governor, who lamented that the 2012 flooding affected the project, noted that when completed, many communities would benefit from the road project.
The flood, he said, washed away the sand, as it threw up the challenge of constructing a bridge where the initial design was a box culvert.
He assured the people of Umeh and that efforts were on to complete the stone base work of the road and possibly, tar the road before the heavy rains set in.
The governor on Tuesday also inspected ongoing projects in Ughelli, Ekpan and Warri.
