185 Killed, 2000 Houses Razed in Borno Town, Baga, as Soldiers, Boko Haram Fight

At least 185 persons including women and children were reported to have been killed by either gunshots  or fire after suspected Boko Haram gunmen engaged soldiers of the Joint Task Force in a deadly shootout that left the commercial border town of Baga in Borno State completely burnt down.
Local government officials, who spoke to PREMIUM TIMES, said 185 persons died, at least 2000 houses, 64 motorcycles and 40 cars were burnt in the wake of the attack.
The Borno State Governor, Kashim Shettima, visited the town on Sunday and was told by residents that soldiers were responsible for the torching of houses that led to the death of many.
PREMIUM TIMES gathered that scores of others are currently hospitalised with various shades of burnt injuries.
Residents said most casualties, especially the aged ones and children, died as a result of the conflagration that engulfed the entire town.
Governor Kashim Shettima, who visited the town on Sunday, became emotionally drenched at the sight of charred houses, vehicles and how homeless residents took refuge in the bush.
The Commander of the Task Force, Brigadier General Austin Edokpaye, explained that the fire that consumed the town and resultant deaths should be blamed on the Boko Haram terrorists who opened fire on soldiers while  hiding in the mix of civilians.
A local trader in Baga told PREMIUM TIMES that the attack started at about 8 p.m. on Friday and was continued the next day.
"Only God can understand what we have done to deserve this. But the soldiers were mindless that night in their approach; they killed and burnt our houses, chased everyone into the bush including women and children. So far we have buried 185 corpses. – some were burnt beyond recognition; others are hospitalised with various degrees of burnt," said the resident who begged to remain anonymous.
Governor Shettima who drove through the burnt town amidst heavy motorcade of security personnel condemned the incident which he said was a 'nasty occurrence'.
At the town's hospital, the governor had to  commiserate with women, children and aged men receiving treatment for various degrees of burnt caused by the fire.
Bashir Isa, a grocery merchant,  told PREMIUM TIMES that "everyone has been in the bush since Friday night; we started returning back to town because the governor came to town today.
"To get food to eat in the town now is a problem because even the markets are burnt. We are still picking corpses of women and children in the bush and creeks."
Brigadier General Edokpaye denied allegations by residents that the shootout was unprovoked.
"We lost an officer during the attack on our men on patrol. We've received an intelligence that some suspected Boko Haram members usually pray and hide arms at a particular mosque in town. It was around that mosque that our men were attacked with several of them injured and an officer died.
"When we reinforced and returned to the scene, the terrorists came out with heavy firepower including RPGs which usually has a conflagration effect," the army chief said.
Governor Shettima pleaded with fleeing residents to return to their burnt homes as a committee had been empannelled to provide a palliative compensation for the loss they suffered.
He also called on the commander to "take full charge" of his operation and ensure he personally supervises his field officers from time to time "in order to avert such nasty incidences in the future."

2015: Jonathan’s Aides Negotiate With Niger Delta Ex-Militants Over Insecurity In Region

Aides of President Goodluck Jonathan are scheduling a series of meetings with ex-militant leaders from the Niger Delta states to smooth the way for Mr. Jonathan’s plans to run again in 2015.

Earlier, Lawrence Pepple, who works with Kingsley Kuku, the presidential adviser on Niger Delta Affairs and chairman of the amnesty implementation committee, held one of the meetings with some former militants. A source told SaharaReporters that Mr. Pepple discussed an alleged plot by anti-Jonathan forces to break the ranks of ex-militants and provoke insecurity in the region ahead of the 2015 elections.
Mr. Pepple, the head of Reintegration Department for the amnesty committee, stood in for Mr. Kuku at today’s talk. The meeting took place at the official opening of the office of a peace advocacy group called the Leadership, Peace and Cultural Development Initiative (LPCDI). The group’s founder, Reuben Wilson, was an ex-militant leader.
Mr. Pepple warned that anti-Goodluck Jonathan forces had infiltrated everywhere, including the fold of ex-militants and the leadership of major oil producing countries. Mr. Kuku’s emissary disclosed that the primary reason for today’s meeting was to inform ex-militants of the amnesty committee’s efforts and plans to improve their welfare. He added, however, that worrisome reports on the activities of anti-Jonathan forces were linked to a recent spike in violence in the region, including the killing of 12 police officers in Bayelsa State.
Reading Mr. Kuku’s speech, Mr. Pepple reportedly described the murder of 12 police officers as a “tip of the iceberg.” He added: “More will happen. People are all out to create a sense of insecurity, not only in the North, but in the house of Jonathan so as to make him not sellable. Jonathan has value and he is better than those we don't know.” He then pleaded with the ex-militants: “They (anti-Jonathan forces) will come to you, please take their money and do not execute the destruction they want you to do."
The speech continued: “They have ganged up and will come in different clouts. This year, 2013, is the determining year on whether Goodluck will run or not. 2014 is the Passover year and we must make him marketable. They have penetrated many nations including the United States of America. This is why I am going to address the Congress on the Niger Delta issue. We need to tell the US Congress that if they support these anti-Jonathan forces, we cannot guarantee internal security in the Niger Delta." In his own speech, the leader of the newly formed group, Mr. Wilson, noted that the formation of the group was to serve as a catalyst for sustainable peace in the region.
“For some time now, the existing sustainable peace in the region has led to many positive developments,” he said. Mr. Wilson claimed that Nigeria’s oil wealth had risen and added that the benefits could be seen in new developmental strides under the administration of President Jonathan. Mr. Wilson described peace as golden, and then accused unidentified interests with “trying to puncture our testimony of total peace and tranquility entered into through the Federal Government’s amnesty program in the region." He blamed the killing of 12 police officers on “anti-peace agents.”
He condemned the killing and called on law enforcement agents to “go after these enemies of peace and development in the south-south. We will not allow them [to] drag the region back to the forgotten dark days.” Mr. Wilson pledged his group’s readiness “to assist the security agencies in bringing these evil agents to book to serve as a deterrent to others plotting to engage in violent crime,” adding, “Violence does not pay in resolving personal issues."

Jay Z Linked To Satanic Sex Cult

There's a new claim that Jay Z is a devotee of the satanic sex cult, Ordo Templi Orientis, founded by Aleister Crowley (pictured right below).
photo
Ordo Templi Orientis founding 'prophet' Aleister Crowley, who was born into an upper-class British family in 1875, styled himself as 'the Great Beast 666'. He was an unabashed occultist who, prior to his death in 1947, reveled in his infamy as 'the wickedest man in the world'.
His form of worship involved sadomasochistic sex rituals with men and women, spells which he claimed could raise malevolent gods and the use of hard drugs, including opium, cocaine, heroin and mescaline. Crowley’s motto — perpetuated by OTO — was 'do what thou wilt'. And it is this individualistic approach that has led to a lasting fascination among artists and celebrities.
Celebrities linked to OTO include the rapper Jay-Z, who has repeatedly purloined imagery and quotations from Aleister Crowley.
Whether wearing a T-shirt emblazoned with 'Do what thou wilt' or hiring Rihanna to hold aloft a flaming torch in his music videos (a reference to the Illuminati, an outlawed secret society whose name supposedly derives from Lucifer, or 'light bringer'), he has given the sect priceless publicity.
His clothing line, Rocawear, is shot through with OTO imagery such as the 'all seeing eye' in a triangle, the 'eye of Horus' (an ancient Egyptian symbol frequently referenced in occult texts) and the head of Baphomet (the horned, androgynous idol of Western occultism).
Some conspiracy theorists have seized on this as evidence that he is a member of a secret Masonic movement which they believe permeates the highest levels of business and government.
Others take a more pragmatic view: that it is commercial opportunism, cashing in on impressionable teens’ attraction to the 'edginess' of occult symbolism.

INEC Headquarters On Fire Again

A fire incident occurred on Monday at the Headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, in Abuja.
The minor fire incident occurred in the office of the former director in charge of Alternative Dispute Resolution located in the Information, Communications and Technology, ICT, building of the headquarters.
Kayode Idowu, the commission’s spokesperson, confirmed the fire incident.
The incident occurs less than four months after another fire incident at the headquarters. The January 7 incident occurred at the office of the Director of Voter Registry at the same ICT building.

President Jonathan Quiet More Than 48 Hours After 185 Civilians Massacred In Borno

More than 48 hours after Nigerian soldiers hunting for Boko Haram insurgents allegedly leveled Baga town in Borno State, killing 185 civilians and wounding several others, President Goodluck Jonathan is yet to comment on the tragedy.photo
The president’s silence is a sharp contrast with the way his United States counterpart, Barack Obama, acts whenever even a single American is killed.
Immediately news of the Boston bombing, which killed three and injured more than 170 reached him last Monday, President Obama spoke up, condole with the victims and their families, described the incident as an act of terrorism and stressed the determination of the American authorities to bring perpetrators to book.
But there has been no word from the Nigerian government since news of the massacre broke in the local and international press.
Presidential spokespersons, Reuben Abati and Doyin Okupe did not answer or return calls seeking comments on why the president is still quiet about the killings. They also did not respond to text messages sent to them.
The president’s silence has however sparked outrage among some Nigerians.
“A competent and sensible president should have visited Borno immediately to see things for himself,” says Segun Onabanjo, a sociology lecturer at the Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago Iwoye. “That he is still holed up there in Aso Rock, keeping mum when his troops are alleged to have extrajudicially killed 185 is an indication of how much this president values the lives of the people he governs.”
Olu Akerele, a chieftain of the opposition Progressive Peoples Alliance, PPA, said it is sad that Nigerians have no one to look up to for leadership in the face of this kind  of tragedy.
“Our expectation is that the president would immediately review the intelligence he received from Borno and then take action to lessen the pains of the people of the town. This president has carried his ineptitude too far,” Mr. Akerele said. “It is an indication that even if all of us are killed, this president just might not care.”
