"I Had Health Challenges – Gov Uduaghan Dismissed Death Rumours

Uduaghan, at an inter-denominational thanksgiving service to mark the 2013 Democracy Day and 2nd anniversary of his administraion, at the Flock of Christ Mission, Enerhen, said part of the rumour was that he had stroke and was confined to a wheel chair, while some heartless persons were planning to buy casket for his interment.
Restating his determination to “finish strong” in 2013 by delivering on his electoral promises, he said:  “There is too much hatred in the land, so much rumour mongering. We are human, so I can be sick too. A few weeks ago, I had some health challenges. I had weakness on one part of my face. In spite of that, I went on a courtesy call with it. After three days, I was pressurised to travel for check up abroad.
“But I am well now. I spent three days in Abuja because of my health. People were spreading rumours that I was dead and they were ready to buy a casket for my burial. However, you can see I have conquered the fear of death. If people are sick, we should pray for their recovery and not wish them dead.
“We must stop spreading dangerous rumours. They are destructive rumours, they do not build the society, but destroy society and that is why I am urging all Deltans on the need to live in unity and help my administration to finish strong. Pray for us to succeed.”
Governor Uduaghan said he had stormy elections and praised Rev. Simeon Okah of Flock of Christ Mission and National Vice President, PFN, South-South Zone for his prayers and support.

Bayarn Munich Parties As Dortmund Mourns

Bayern Munich fans celebrated long into the night after their team’s 2-1 Champions League triumph over Dortmund at Wembley on Saturday ensured two defeats in the previous three finals were quickly forgotten.
More than 40,000 Bayern fans erupted in delirious joy when Arjen Robben scored the 89th minute winner as they watched the match on a chilly, wet night at a special public viewing event set up on Munich’s Oktoberfest grounds.
Another 50,000 Bayern supporters watching on video screens at Bayern Munich’s Allianz Arena were finally able to celebrate after the Dutch forward rescued them from the prospect of another heartbreaking defeat on Europe’s biggest stage.
Many stormed the vacant pitch to proclaim the famous victory and tear up sods of turf as souvenirs.
“It’s superb and I feel so relieved,” said Marco Goering, who had joined thousands of fans on Munich’s fashionable Leopoldstrasse in a spontaneous midnight rally.
“It’s an overwhelming feeling. Three finals in four years. It’s a fantastic feeling to see how the fans are going crazy here, a great feeling.”
Singing, dancing and slapping each other on the back, many fans offered their own rendition of the Queen song “We Are The Champions” as well as traditional fan chants praising Bayern.
The mood was entirely different 600-km to the north in Dortmund, a former mining town about as far away from the glitzy and cosmopolitan world of Munich that you can get in a country where opinion was divided on who was the popular choice in the all-German final.
The match began well for the thousands of Dortmund fans packed into the Friedensplatz square in their black and yellow jerseys after the team dominated their loathed opponents for much of the first half.
Joy turned to despair when Munich scored after an hour before a deafening roar greeted Dortmund’s equaliser in the 68th minute, reviving memories of Bayern’s squandering of a 1-0 lead in last year’s final before losing on penalties to Chelsea.

Six Killed As Lagos Youths Clash During Match

No fewer than six youths were killed, while others sustained injuries after youths clashed during a football match at the Ajah area of the Lekki-Epe Expressway, Lagos State.

PUNCH Metro learnt that the youths had converged to play football during the compulsory monthly sanitation exercise when an argument ensued.
According to police authorities, the clash was between three factions, the Olumegbon boys, Ajah boys and Ilaje boys.
It was learnt that there was no winner in the battle as the casualties were spread evenly among the three factions.
It was also learnt that the whole area was filled with blood as well as broken glass and sticks after the fracas.
According to eyewitnesses, the damage had already been done before the police arrived.
An eyewitness, who spoke to our correspondent on condition of anonymity, said Ilaje boys were not playing football but got involved in the clash when Ajah boys attempted to escape through their own territory.
He said, “Ajah youths were playing football. Later Olumegbon boys arrived the place and soon an argument ensued which led to the clash. As the fighting continued, some of the Ajah boys tried to escape through Ilaje Community so the youths attempted to push them back so that they would not be embroiled in the fight.
“The Ajah youths in the process, killed two of our youths and of course a fight ensued.”
It was learnt that before the police could respond, the wounded had been rushed to the hospital, while the dead had been taken away by their respective factions.
The Olumegbon boys were said to have carried the corpses of their dead colleagues to the palace of the Olumegbon.
It was learnt that the incident was also part of a supremacy battle for the control of motor parks in the area.
PUNCH Metro learnt that the factions were formed after some landowners started having disagreement over parcels of land in the area. The issue soon metamorphosed into divisions as each faction started having its area of control, including motor parks.
It was learnt that some elders and security agents had made various proposals for peace to reign in the area.
Some of the proposals were that no member of a faction should trespass on another faction’s territories.
A faction going into another faction’s motor park to collect toll, and dispute over land, had often been the causes of most of their clashes.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Ngozi Braide, confirmed that six youths were killed.
Braide said two youths died from each group adding that it was a supremacy battle for the control in the area.
She said the police had beefed up security of the area.
She said, “Six youths were killed in the clash which started during a football match. Two youths from Ilaje, two from Ajah and two from Olumegbon were killed. Their fight is always because of supremacy claims.”
PUNCH Metro had reported in December 2012 that over seven people were killed during a similar clash between Ajah and Ilaje youths which left over 50 houses burnt.

The police in Plateau State have allayed the fears of residents over the speculation that some of the insurgents being dislodged from the three states where emergency rule has been declared were finding their way to the state, saying there is no cause for alarm.

The state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Chris Olakpe, said at a press briefing that residents had nothing to fear as the various security agencies were collaborating to ensure that there was no backlash of the situation in Adamawa, Borno and Yobe states.
He said the war against crime in the state was yielding fruits as the command smashed a 24-man armed robbery syndicate which specialized in snatching of cars, handsets, laptops and production of ammunition.
Parading the suspects at the police headquarters, Olakpe said: “The gang members, some of whom claimed to be students of the University of Jos, specialized in car robbery using pestle and handmade guns.
”We also have in our custody an occultic gang group who murdered a man last December, putting his buttered body in a Ghana- must go bag”.
He said about 18 cars were recovered from neighboring states of Bauchi, Kano and Nassarawa and called on the public to be alert and car owners to ensure they do not drive at odd times.
