Inspector Shoots Danfo Driver To Death
A police inspector attached to the Elere Police Station in Agege, Lagos, southwest Nigeria, has been arrested for killing a commuter bus driver, Ibrahim Fagbohun, 29, through accidental discharge.
The culprit identified as Inspector Ibrahim Abdullahi is being detained at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, Yaba, pending conclusion of investigations.
It was gathered that the bus driver was shot dead on Thursday at Ile-Epo along the Lagos-Abeokuta expressway in the midst of his colleagues who were trying to apprehend an alleged thief.
The detained police inspector, it was learnt, was on patrol with other policemen when they sighted the drivers who are members of an association called "Corporate Drivers" trying to apprehend a man for allegedly stealing two tyres.
Inspector Abdullahi fired in the air and inadvertently shot Fagbohun on the forehead. The bus driver was confirmed dead at Oke Odo General Hospital.
The Chairman of Corporate Drivers, Rahmon Okanlawon said: "We were trying to apprehend the man who stole our tyres when a police patrol team came.
The Inspector jumped down and started firing indiscriminately in the air. The bullet hit one of our members, Ibrahim Fagbohun, on the forehead and he died immediately. When we rushed him to the hospital, he was confirmed dead."
Okanlawon said he was also arrested by the policemen from Elere and taken to the station where he was detained. Meanwhile, the Civil Society Club of Nigeria, led by Comrade Babatunde Ashafa, has called on the state Commissioner of Police to investigate the murder and bring the culprit to book.
"We asked the drivers not to foment trouble over the murder and allow the law to take it course. The IGP must probe the murder and ensure that justice is done," Ashafa pleaded.
Also commenting on the murder, Lagos Police Command Spokesperson, Ngozi Braide, confirmed the arrest of the Inspector, adding that he had been detained at the SCID for interrogation.
"We have arrested the Inspector and he has been detained at the SCID. We are interrogating him and if he is found guilty, he will be prosecuted," Braide stated.
Area 'G' Police Division Commander, Abdullahi Danbaruba, under whose jurisdiction the murder falls, also confirmed the arrest of the Inspector. The deceased had two children, Rasheed, 4 and Nimota, three months.

Luis Suarez Receives Backing From Liverpool Legend Ian Rush

Former Liverpool striker Ian Rush has told Sky Sports Luis Suarez's 10-game ban is too long and saluted the Uruguayan's tenacity.
photo Former Liverpool striker Ian Rush has told Sky Sports Luis Suarez's 10-game ban is too long and saluted the Uruguayan's tenacity.
The 26-year-old forward recently received the suspension for biting Branislav Ivanovic's arm during his team's 2-2 draw against Chelsea.
There have been fears at Anfield the controversial forward would walk out on English football, but it seems increasingly likely that won't happen with the club promising to help the player manage his emotions.
It is an approach fully endorsed by Rush and the Welshman, who played for Liverpool for 15 years over two spells, told the Soccer Extra Bank Holiday Special: "Luis is a lovely lad, a family man and he deserves what he gets but he's a very talented man.
"The ban was a bit harsh. But that's the sort of animal he is. If you take that out of him you lose the qualities he's got. He's been absolutely superb and without doubt the player of the year for Liverpool.
"He's let the club down with him missing so many games. But he's such a special talent. He's got to take the punishment and come back a much better person."
Suarez will miss Liverpool's remaining Premier League games this season and the opening six domestic matches of the next campaign.

Mulogo said the motive of attack is not known but Tanzania has in the recent past experienced sectarian violence between Christians and Muslims.

Police Take 16 Year-Old Girl In Custody For Dressing Inappropriately

Police Take 16 Year-Old Girl In Custody For Dressing Inappropriately
A 16 year-old girl was taken into police custody for dressing inappropriately in the capital Male’, May 5.
Police Spokesperson Chief Inspector Hassan Haneef told Minivan News today that the minor was alone in Novelty Bookshop in Male’ when she was taken into custody for wearing a black cocktail dress.
"The societal norms and values of Maldivian culture were violated," Haneef said. “There are laws, which might fall under the Anti-social Behaviour Act.”
The girl was taken into police custody because people were "teasing her on the street," according to local media.
"The minor was given a police jacket to cover herself and taken to the Family and Child Protection department," Haneef said.
"Police explained to her about how her dress should be as well as called her parents and advised them regarding this.
She was not arrested and is not being charged or penalised. We were not concerned with her dress, just with the nudity. We don’t want [this to go to] court," he added.
Haneef emphasised that the issue in question was upholding societal norms and values and if anyone witnesses someone violating those standards they should report them to the police.
"If someone is not meeting these expectations they can be arrested, but it is very rare. It depends on a case by case basis," explained Haneef.
"Anyone can dress with nudity, even in plain clothes, if they are showing any personal, private parts and society does not accept that," an anonymous police official said.
"She was very, very, very, very naked. Her dress was transparent," the official added.
Pictures of the minor taken by bystanders have flooded social media.
Anti-social behavior act
While the Anti-social Behavior Act in the Maldives lists specific offences that could be considered antisocial behavior, dress codes in public are not dealt with in the law passed by parliament in 2010.
Offences that could be considered anti-social behaviour are specified in articles five through 14 of the law, including harassing people on the streets (article 6(a)).
Other offences include harassing or intimidating neighbours, exhibitionism, damaging personal property, spraying graffiti on walls, putting up posters and banners without permission, playing loud music and leaving garbage bags on the roads.

Former Nigerian Model, Yinka Olonode, Commits Suicide In The US

According to reports, he apparently committed suicide by jumping from the 15th floor of the Nines hotel at 525 S.W downtown Portland rooftop restaurant on Monday, 29th April evening.
If you can't remember him, just think back on one of the first adverts MTN made. It was set in a university campus scene where a guy was asking a girl out and she said 'what part of NO don't you understand, is it the N or the O?'
One of the guys in that advert was Yinka Olonode. He attended Unilag and he was quite a popular student.
He recorded a song No woman no cry on YouTube before he left Nigeria and he was quite good. He didn't pursue the music industry though.
He was a model and a very good online personality in Nigeria. I don't know whether or not he was married but I know he had a daughter named, Feyisola Elizabeth
Nobody knows his motive for the suicide yet.
May his soul rest in peace and may God look after his young child.
