Super Eagles Still On Track – Onyedinma

A Board member of the Nigeria Football Association (NFA), Mrs Dilichukwu Onyedinma, said on Thursday that Nigeria was still on track to qualifying for the FIFA 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Super Eagles of Nigeria on Wednesday forced the Brave Warriors of Namibia to a 1-1 draw in a crucial World Cup qualifier in Windhoek.
The match played at the artificial turf of the Sam Nujoma Stadium, saw Deon Kavendji surprisingly open scoring for the Namibians in the 77th minute.
However, Godfrey Oboabona got the much needed equaliser for Nigeria in the 83rd minute of a gruelling encounter.
Onyedinma said that the draw was not a bad result as it gave the Eagles nine points; a two point lead in Group F considering the 2-2 draw played by Kenya and Malawi.
The 2-2 draw placed Malawi in second place with seven points, while Kenya are last in the group with three points after five games.
Onyedinma, who doubles as the Chairperson of the Nigeria Women League, pointed out that it was good the Eagles played the away game first.
She expressed hope that the second leg encounter between the Super Eagles and Malawi in Nigeria would be favourable to the country.
It is not a child's play and as such we will not give Malawi a chance to succeed in the second leg.
We need to cap it up here so that we can finish on top of the group,'' Onyedinma said.
NAN reports that Nigeria will play Malawi on September 9, in a return leg fixture which is also the team’s last group game.
The September clash of Nigeria and Malawi become a group decider with the Super Eagles needing a draw and the Flames a win to finish on top.
A win in the encounter will brighten the country's chance of being at the world cup tagged, ``Brazil 2014’’.
The Super Eagles now switch attention to the Confederations Cup in Brazil where they face Tahiti on June 17 in Group B followed by Uruguay and world champions Spain.
